Health workers at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe have given authorities a seven days ultimatum to fire hospital’s human resource officer Thandi Mnkhondiya whom they are accusing of nepotism, drug theft and abuse of office among others.
The development follows the arrest of two ladies; a patient attendant at the facility and a nurse from Kasungu district hospital on allegations that they dumped various individuals of money on pretext of recruiting them as health surveillance assistants.
According to police, the two identified as Agness Dzumani and Ivy Chinguwo posed themselves as Bwaila Hospital’s Human Resource and District Health officers and they dumped the victims over 250,000 Malawi kwacha.
Reacting to the arrest, through a letter in our custody, some angry health workers at Bwaila hospital claims that two are the victims of circumstance saying ‘they were agents of the Human Resource officer’.
“The two are just the victims, we have strong evidence that they were acting on behalf of human resource officer to dump the innocent j0b seekers” said one of the angry hospital officers who opted for anonymity.
The workers then challenged Police, District commissioners and health officer to carry out investigation on the matter; and further called upon authorities to suspend human resource officer pending investigation on the matter.
The HRO, who is untouchable due to her “connections” within the layers of powers, was also in the news some months ago after she hired her unqualified close relatives at the facility.
